Commissions
Chiddingly Millenium Commission
"Spirit of the Village" funded by the Arts Council, 2000, this project included interactive work with the villagers and a 3 month residency. Four larger than life oak figures, representing the four seasons, surround a centrepiece on which are carved significant buildings of the village: Church, pub, school, etc. The centrepiece is carved in the style of a medieval font. The carvings are permanently sited in the Millenium Garden free ( and disabled) access at all times. Chiddingly can be found by taking the turning east off the A22 at Golden Cross (opposite the Ringmer turning). Park in the Church car park, gate to the Millenium Garden leads off this car park. The Six Bells pub just opposite offers a wide choice of good meals! Also lovely country walks, Vanguard Way and Wealdway, see appropriate OS maps.
The Robertsbridge Commission
"Noah's Rest" carved oak. Commissioned by the Robertsbridge Community Arts Partnership, 2003. Robertsbridge suffered severe flooding in recent years and received government funding to build flood defences and extensively reroute the river Rother. Noah seemed an appropriate theme. His beard becomes a river, with leaping brown trout, as found locally. His hair sweeps down the back of his head past willow trees and under a well known local bridge. Since 2004 the Noah carving has presided over a landscaped garden at one of the river diversion sites, Station Road, just outside Robertsbridge railway station.
The Queen Elizabeth Park Commission, Guildford, Surrey 2003-4
"The Guildford Story Trail" carved oak. Sue Nunn was commissioned to carve a series of 5 linked sculptures for the new residential development at Queen Elizabeth Park. QEP can be found between Stoughton Road and Grange Road, on the northern outskirts of Guildford. In receipt of significant funding under the Percent for Art scheme. Nunn focussed on a folk tale interpretation of local history, including a Saxon Shepherd, Tower of Sheep, Alice and the Cheshire Cat, the Readers, and an Ancient Gardener. The sculptures can be found by parking at the Leisure Centre(refreshments)/Budgeons car park on the estate, and wandering along the landscaped footpaths. Open and disabled access. Local residents will help with directions.
