Driftwood Wing
A piece of driftwood I found that originally looked like a mammoth bone - the other way up. I turned it over and saw that it was a wing.

It was my pleasure to carve this commissioned piece for a good friend's birthday. A mighty piece of top grade oak, which weighed a lot!
Loosely based on the face of Sylvia Pankhurst, the most socialist of the Pankhurst girls, who bravely took an anti-war stand in 1914, while her sister & mother encouraged men to sign up.

I found this small piece of driftwood on the beach, it looked dull rust coloured. Starting to carve it, I saw it is a rich deep red, perfect for a fox. A friend thought it looked like a particular red wood found in Brazil, & suggested it had come through many oceans to reach me.
Sue Nunn artist: Driftwood Woman
Sue Nunn artist: Driftwood Woman: Back to work, building works on the studio all done, a small driftwood woman.....The Empty Studio
My extraordinarily empty studio! I have just had the walls & ceiling insulated with 52mm celletex, and after 25 years of freezing I am looking forward to being warmer. And what good timing, with this February freeze. Meanwhile I have been working on sketches for new works in the kitchen.
